Day 13,14 - Queenstown

Nov 8 & 9, 2008
Queenstown was built in honour of the Queen Victoria when she visited NZ. This is the adventure capital of the world??? There is a wide variety of adventure sports to suit everyone here. Bungy jumping originated here in Queenstown in 1987 and the adventure sport scene took off since then. It lies on the banks of Lake Wakatipu. We bought a combo pass, that would take us to on a jet boat ride, then transfer us to the Skyline Gondola in an helicopter, we get complimentary luge rides and then ride the Gondola back to Queenstown. Seems like a good 4 hour activity.

The jet boat ride was fun, especially the 360 turns they do. These boats are so nimble that they need just 10cm of water to operate. They do a 360 degree turn and without even stopping for a moment they are off again.

The luge rides were fun, I fell off the luge at least 3 times and was bruised, you would think how difficult can riding a luge be. Rashmi had no accidents what so ever and I couldnt keep mine on the track, every time I tried a sharp turn I would end up going off track. The weather was not good at all, it was raining throughtout and cold

Our first chopper ride, was over before it began, it lasted about 7 mins. Even in this 7 min ride, I found it funny that the pilot was providing commentary, in one breath he had to say welcome, explain the scenery and say thank you.

Ever since I have been planning to visit NZ, I have been wanting to do a bungy jump. Wanting is totally different from being courageous, so here I am at the birth place of the bungy and havent yet gathered the courage to sign up for it. I give up and accept defeat, only because I found an alternative, I would instead jump off an aeroplane. Look for my skydiving post from Franz Josef.
